So I don’t know if this bodes well for Warsaw, or not… Because this isn’t much… The old town is not a particularly big area – it’s actually quite small, and it doesn’t take long to roam through. It’s nice looking, but nothing spectacular. There are for sure many lovelier old towns around Europe. It has a little colorful flair, but is nothing like it’s Czech equivalent. I would say it’s a nice place to kill an hour, or two – if you sit down for a coffee break, and people watching, at Castle Suqare (featured image). Souvenir: Yellow and white amber pendant necklace 🙂
I hopped on the tramcar, from my hotel located in the city centre (Centrum). Got off at the correct stop by the help of some locals, because there were no old town in sight. No wonder, because when I got off the tramcar, it appeared I was “below” the old town. So just look up, and to the left, over your shoulder, and you’ll find your way. When I got up the hill, I saw plenty of tramcars and buses, so why I ended up on the tramcar that I did – have no idea! Hotel staff directions…
Update: I recently found a ticket stub from the Royal Castle, which means I must have been inside, but I can’t remember that. Does it mean it was not impressive, and something you can leave out? Most likely. In recent years I’ve concluded most castle looks the same…
It’s so interesting to hear you thoughts. I’ve never been to Poland- would love to – but maybe when I do I won’t spend too long in Warsaw. Thanks for linking up to #citytripping xx
Wise choice 🙂 I think I spent 2-3 days, and it was more than enough. Ended up going shopping to kill time 🙂
I’ve only visited Krakow (although we passed through Warsaw on the train) which is lovely, and has wonderful old buildings. It’s good to know there’s at least a small area in the capital if I do find myself there, and a nice way to spend part of the day. Thanks for linking up to #citytripping
I’ve heard Krakow is beautiful, so that’s gonna be my next destination in Poland. No more Warsaw 🙂
Nice to read your opinion on the city. I am assuming Krakow is a more interesting choice.
I hope so too, as I will make my way there some day. Also heard through the grapevine it is beautiful.
My boyfriend is half-Polish and he complains about Warsaw all the time. We prefer Zakopane, great if you’re into snowboarding/skiing. Also has the delicious oscypek cheese. Smoky, salty, delicious. It’s only a short few hours ride from Krakow, hopefully you can add it to your list! I also love Toruń only because I get to make and eat lots of pierniki, gingerbread cookies. Your site is so inspiring, happy travels! 🙂
Yes, Warsaw wasn’t my best choice, but been there, done that 🙂 I have definitely put Krakow on my list. Hear it is beautiful. Thanks for all the tips! Gingerbread cookies – yum! Thank you so much for your kind words! Have great summer!
Similar to Brussels, you can do it all in a day.
I’ve been to Brussels twice, and I’ve still not done the whole city… Need to stay focused, apparently 🙂 I love the Atomium!
I actually didn’t get to go to the Atomium during my day trip. Leaves more to do on the list!
For some reason it has got a hold on me 🙂 Been both during the day and at night. Haven’t been inside though. Next time 🙂
