Vienna: To Do or Not to Do?

vienna austria

Well, my verdict is no… Ok, I probably need to clarify. It might have been me having unrealistically high expectations, as I’ve always believed Vienna to be this unbelievably beautiful city. And there are a lot of beautiful buildings, but it feels like the atmosphere is missing somehow… The shopping is excellent though, but I wasn’t there for that this time around 🙁

If you do decide to go, you might wanna consider these Vienna tips.

  1. I’ve not been to Vienna so can’t give a verdict…I’ve heard some less than enthusiastic feedback from the city though. Maybe if you go again one day it might wow you a bit more. Some places take warming up to… Thanks for linking to #citytripping

  2. That’s a real shame it wasn’t as wonderful as you’d hoped. I wonder if you’d find it different on a second visit? I remember the first time I visited New York, I was expecting to be blown away – we had fun but I didn’t love it. The second time I suddenly got it! Having said that, I’ve only spent less than a day in Vienna on an interrail trip around the city and don’t remember very much of it myself 🙂 Thanks for linking up with #citytripping

    1. I know! I had the same experience with New York. Wasn’t overly amazed the first time, delirious the second. First time I came from a two week stay in Mexico, and was full of experiences, so thought it might be the reason why. Could be the same with Vienna, but then again New York is New York 🙂

  3. I agree as well, I wasn’t terribly impressed. Although that palace really is marvelous, I ended up going twice. And the coffee & chocolate cake are pretty awesome. Something did feel like it was missing from the city, if I ever go back I would want to stay with a local to try and understand what the big deal is.

    1. You mean the Schönbrunn Palace? See, I didn’t fancy it much… Probably because I was there in the fall, and the trees in the park was butt naked 🙂 And as I’ve seen my share of relics and artifacts, I’ve also seen my share of palace interiors 😉 Staying with a local is probably a good idea to get the inside scoop. Great food :star: Happy Easter!

  4. I do agree that the atmosphere isn’t amazing and people could definitely be friendlier. However I would still recommend everyone to go, I loved going to the cafes, flea markets and the buildings were spectacular. We really really enjoyed our trip and if not for the fact the BF got his wallet stolen on the last day then this would have been one of our top 5 trip ever!

    1. So it wasn’t just me who couldn’t find the vibe 🙂 Didn’t take notice of their “unfriendliness”, but I’m from Norway, and I think Norwegians can be a bit less friendly at times… So glad you guys had a great time! Not so glad to hear about the pickpocketing 🙁 My best thing about this trip was the stop I had in Bratislava, Slovakia, before coming to Vienna, and the Wiener Schnitzel 🙂 Ah, and Prunksaal was very nice too! Happy Easter!

  5. I totally agree about Vienna. I didn’t think there was much to see there. However, the pastries and sweets are amazing. There are so many to choose from, and the German influence on the food is cool. I recommend checking out the Imperial Treasury, where they have all of the Austrian crown jewels and tons of really interesting relics and artifacts.

    1. Phew 🙂 Was thinking I might be the only one who didn’t get the hang of it. Yes, good food! I chose to opt out on the treasury… I’ve seen my share of relics and artifacts through the years 🙂 Happy Easter!
