Ngong Ping 360 Has Excellent Views!

To my own surprise, I actually enjoyed Hong Kong‘s Ngong Ping 360 very much! This 5.7 km cable car ride offers excellent views of the island’s coastline and hills, and the sea and islets beyond. From the carriage I could also see what I believe was parts of the Lantau Trail, which I in hindsight regret I didn’t do. My assumption is that most people, at least tourists, use this as a means of transportation to get to the Po Lin Monastery, like I did. Others use it to visit the Ngong Ping Village, which I would claim is not worth your time. It basically feels like it is built to take money from those who are using the cable car for the monastery. The artificial village has shops, places to eat, and other entertainment options. Dare I compare it to an amusement park… The queues for the gondola were fairly huge for the outbound ride (this was on a weekend), but going back there was no line at all. And, from my experience, the glass bottom cabins are not worth the extra dollars.

  1. Both times I had been in HKG I chose the glass bottom cabins and it was fun. To save money I just took the cable car on the way up. For the way down both time I used the regular bus for around 2USD.

    1. Yes, I could have done the bus, which I assume was nice too, but I enjoyed the cable car, just thought the glass bottom was expensive considering.

      1. I also enjoyed the cable car but the First Time I had been there the waiting time to go back was two hours. Next time it was not better why the decision going down by bus was a very good one. 😉

        1. Wow!! Two hours!! The line going out had gotten a lot longer when I got back, but I didn’t have much waiting time. I so get it, I would have walked back instead of waiting in line for two hours 🙂

  2. Can you believe I’ve never done this and I have been to HK so many times… I think I would love it! My husband would be scared though! Thanks for sharing on #MondayEscapes 🙂

    1. 🙂 Not as bad as you think 🙂 You won’t miss out on anything going in regular cabins. I liked the ride a lot, and I’m usually not too much of a fan of cable car rides!
