The Pearl of Reykjavik

You want lunch with a view, at a cool looking place? Head out to the Pearl, Perlan in Icelandic, just outside of downtown Reykjavik. When you approach the building, you will understand how it got its name, the roof is a glass dome. The view you can enjoy from an outside observation deck on top of the huge heating tanks, at the bottom of the dome, or from the inside. It was quite windy when we visited, so I just popped out for a second. However, in my opinion, you get better views from the tower of Hallgrimskirkja, in town. There the city is, of course, closer. As we got here at lunch time, we took the opportunity to fill up in a food court like environment. Lots to choose from, and prices are not too intimidating. Even though you in a way have to pass through the restaurant area to access the upstairs, it is possible to come just for the views.

PS! On their website I see there’s also an upscale restaurant serving dinner, and, based on the photos, the dishes look enticing.

It’s very easy to get to the Pearl. Hop on a local bus (short ride), and climb the hill.

Iceland is #1 on my “next destination” list!

    1. Of the Northern Lights? Sorry, don’t have any photos. Of Arctic Norway? Click the Arctic tag under Top Topics to the right on my blog, and you’ll find photo posts and more. Arctic Norway is beautiful! You should come 🙂

    1. I grew up in Arctic Norway, so A.B. is something I’ve seen quite often. However not with all the different colors. That I don’t think I’ve ever come across… Would love to see it too 🙂

    1. I liked it! Indeed Iceland has a lot to offer. This trip was a birthday gift for my mom. She’s always wanted to go. Had a great time – lots to see and do! Only regret, I didn’t do the day trip to Greenland 🙁

    1. Thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply. For some reason this comment ended up in the spam folder… I guess it depends on what your interests are. If you like more remote places, scenery, nature – you should go! But try to go in the summer, when it’s green and nice. I went in April, and everything was pretty grey, the weather too… Reykjavik is not a big town, but a very nice place to go for a stroll. Most of the attractions are outside of Reykjavik. I suggest you rent a car (over day trips) to get the most out of your stay. Also possible to go on a day trip to Greenland. Still bummed about me deciding not to do that 🙁 Followed you on Facebook and Instagram. Let me know if you’re on Twitter, and we’ll connect there as well.

Love to hear your comment :)
